A fire is the one piece of furniture you build the room around. It should look as if it was always there.
I trained as a mason in Bergen and spent ten years rebuilding chimneys in houses older than the country I now live in. We fit around sixty fires a year, no more, so that one of us is on every job from the survey to the first fire. We work with a short list of stove makers we have stood behind for years, and we tell you when the fireplace you have is better left as it is.

The fire you can hear.
We rebuild the firebox, fit a new throat damper and line the flue, then set the surround in stone or plaster to suit the room. It is the least efficient fire we make and the one people remember.

A clean-burning stove on a stone or steel hearth, with a twin-wall flue through the roof or a liner down an old chimney. We draw the hearth, the log store and the flue route before anything is ordered.

A sealed firebox that slides into the fireplace you already have, with a stainless liner to the top of the stack. The surround stays as it is, and the room finally gets warm.
A flame at the touch of a switch.
Linear, see-through or three-sided, set flush into a wall we frame and finish ourselves. Balanced flue out through the wall, so no chimney is needed, and a licensed gas fitter on every job.
A clay or brick flue that served a coal grate for a hundred years is rarely right for a modern stove. It is too wide, it cracks, and it lets tar settle where it should not. A stainless liner fixes all three. We fit liners to our own fires and to fires we did not install, and we tell you straight away when a chimney needs one.

Anders or Maren comes to the house, looks up the chimney with a camera, measures the room and listens. The survey is $180 and comes off the install.
Within ten days you get a scaled drawing of the hearth, the fire and the flue route, with two finishes priced side by side. Architects get the DWG.
One team from start to finish, dust sheets down, floors protected. Most stoves and inserts are fitted in two days; open hearths take longer.
We light the first fire with you, show you how to run it low and clean, and leave the manual and the permit sign-off on the mantel.
The studio is an 1870s timber barn on Mill Lane. Nine fires are set up and burning through the cold months, so you can stand in front of a stove before you choose one, feel the heat at six feet and hear how quiet a good one is. Bring a photo of the room and a floor plan if you have them.
We do not take on new sweeping-only customers. It keeps September free for the people whose fires we built. Every client gets a reminder in late summer and a slot before the first cold night.

They were the only installer who sent a drawing I could put straight into our set. The stove sits exactly where the plan said it would, and the flue lines up with the ridge.
