The average appointment in Hartwell is booked at 15 minutes. Ours are 40. The extra time goes on letting your pet sniff the room, on examining slowly, and on answering every question you came in with. We run late less often, too, because the schedule has room to breathe.

Cats and dogs never share a room
Cats are seen in the cat room and dogs in the two dog rooms. A cat room that has never smelled a dog is the fastest way we know to a cat that lets us listen to its heart.
A waiting area for cats only
Behind a sliding door off the entrance, with raised shelves so carriers sit off the floor and a basket of towels to cover them. Most cats wait under two minutes, because we call you when the room is ready.
Pheromone diffusers in every room
Feline and canine calming pheromones run in the rooms that match. Diffusers are refilled every four weeks, not when someone remembers.
Treats, and the floor if they prefer it
We examine on a mat on the floor, on the bench, or in your lap, wherever your pet is least worried. Treats all the way through, unless we have asked you to fast them for bloodwork.

Wellness
A nose to tail exam once or twice a year, vaccines chosen for how your pet actually lives, and a weight and diet review. You leave with a written summary the same afternoon.

Dentistry
We look at teeth at every visit. Cleanings are done under a monitored anaesthetic with full mouth dental x-rays, and your pet goes home the same day with a plan you can keep up at home.

Senior pets
From about seven years we move to exams every six months, with bloodwork, blood pressure and a mobility score each time. Arthritis is common, quiet and very treatable.

Behaviour
Sixty minute consults for fear, noise sensitivity and separation distress, and a calming plan for pets who find the vet hard. Happy visits, with treats and no exam, are always free.

Loamwood sits in a converted print shop on Alder Row. We kept the big windows and the oak floor, laid rubber matting where paws need grip, and soundproofed the walls between rooms so nobody hears anyone else’s bad day.

Lukas runs our dental days on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He will show you what he found on the x-rays, tooth by tooth, before he recommends anything.

Cats and behaviour
Aiko works almost entirely in the cat room. She is the vet to see if your cat hides in the carrier, and for any dog who has learned to dread the car park.

One monthly payment covers the routine year, so nobody has to decide whether a check-up is worth it. Cancel any time after the first twelve months.
