PENDLEFORDSINCE 1981Cedar Hollow, since 1981

The same backyards, every week, since 1981.

Ray Pendleford started with one truck and eleven pools in Cedar Hollow. Today he and his daughter Jess run four routes across the Linden valley, and your technician is the same person every week.

Weekly full service $165 a month, chemicals included. No contract, cancel with one week’s notice.

Ray Pendleford in a customer’s backyard
Ray, on a Monday in Cedar Hollow. He still starts at 7:30.

A father, a daughter, and 45 summers.

Ray grew up in Cedar Hollow and started cleaning his neighbours’ pools the summer he turned twenty five. Jess rode along in the truck as a kid, and came back after college to make the business a bit less paper and a bit more phone.

Between them they know most of the pumps in the valley by sound. When you call, one of them answers.

  1. 1981

Ray Pendleford buys a used pickup, a pole and a test kit, and signs up eleven pools in Cedar Hollow.

  2. 1994

A second truck and the Willow Bend route. Ray’s wife Carol takes over the phone and the books.

  3. 2009

Jess joins after college, earns her pool operator certification and takes the Stonegate route.

  4. 2018

Jess runs the office and the schedule, and every visit now ends with a note to your phone.

  5. 2026

Four technicians, twelve neighbourhoods and 379 pools. Ray still does Mondays.

Four technicians, and you get the same one.

Each route belongs to one person. If they are off sick or on holiday, one of the other three covers, and your note tells you who came.

  1. 1Skim and empty the baskets

Leaves and bugs off the top, skimmer and pump baskets emptied so the water keeps moving.

  2. 2Brush the walls and tile line

Walls, steps and the waterline tile brushed every visit, before anything has a chance to grow.

  3. 3Vacuum the floor

Manual vacuum where the automatic cleaner misses, corners and steps included.

  4. 4Test and balance the water

Chlorine, pH, alkalinity and stabiliser tested at the pool and dosed on the spot.

  5. 5Check the equipment

Filter pressure, pump sound, heater and timer. Backwash when the gauge says so.

  6. 6Send the service note

Readings, what we added, a photo of the pool and anything we think you should know.

Ask the neighbours. They will tell you.

Ray cleaned this pool for the people we bought the house from, and their parents before that. He knew where the leak in the return line was before we did.
